The Academic Writing Center is a resource for UM faculty members, staffs, students, and community members. You can get support with writing research articles through checking out our writing resource database, attending our writing events and workshops, and scheduling one-on-one sessions with writing tutors.
Academic Writing Center at Balai Bahasa UM is established with the following vision and mission:
“The AWC is a site where faculty members, staff, students, and community members from within the host university and other universities develop practical knowledge and skills in academic writing necessary in the academic culture of a higher institution.”
In achieving the vision, the AWC carries out missions as follows:
- Collaboration: The AWC is dedicated to catering for collaborative work between faculty members, staff, students, and community members from similar and different fields of study, from within the host university and other universities. Collaboration is also open for members of academia from various institutions relevant to the research purposes, including overseas university and research institution from both national and international organizations. Such is to foster transdisciplinary academic interaction, much needed for the development of knowledge and technology in late-stage of globalization.
- Creativity: The AWC tailors its program in accordance with the clients’ needs. The tutors constantly create ways to empower the clients to achieve the writing task purposes using various teaching formats such as one-on-one classes, classical classes, workshops, seminars, and writing boot camps.
- Inclusivity and accessibility: The AWC is located at a building which is accessible to the members of the host university and the general public. Therefore, it can provide services for faculty members, staff, students, and community members from within the host university and other universities.
- Holistic student development and success: Most of the services of the proposed AWC are designed for individual clients. This ensures the success of each client’s writing needs.

Writing center at Balai Bahasa FS UM provides consultations on academic writing. All 45- minutes sessions are currently held on-line. To register, you must:
- Be an active student of undergraduate/ postgraduate program of FS UM
- Have a draft written in English with 5000 – 7000 words
